Lake Fork is about to be great again!  Fishing is about to get hot so now is the time to book your trips with us.  After this last cold front the surface temperature of the water fell to 39 degrees in the creeks.  The deep water didn’t change much, and that’s where the big girls are living right now.  If we stay after it in the deeper water, you can catch a bass of a lifetime.  To catch these big bass, we are going to use a jig, spoon, and swimbait.  On jigs, we use either a Johnson’s Custom Baits bass jig, a football jig, or sometimes a hardhead jig.  When fishing jigging spoons, we like the Johnson Custom Baits jigging spoons with our favorite color being the Chartreuse and Chrome in several sizes and the flutter type spoons in several brands but especially Weedless lures.   There are so many brands of swimbaits that we like, but one of our favorites is the Lake Fork Trophy lures Live Magic Shad with our homemade weighted hook.

Right now in the deep water, numbers of smaller bass can be caught on drop shops and Carolina rigs with four or five inch worms.  The jigging spoon is especially fun to use this time of the year because you never know what you’re going to catch.  Fishing some of the road beds and humps you may catch bass, crappie, sand bass, yellow bass, and catfish all in the same area.    We will be staying with this deep pattern for the big bass for the next three weeks for the most part.  Some days you can catch some in the shallow water on Traps and swimming jigs, but for us the deep pattern is just more consistent.
